Where the Wild Things Are

Sat Oct 24, 2009, 9:05 PM
Was so fantastic. I usually don't find much depth in children's movies but my goodness, this one was profoundly deep. From the beginning I felt it tugging at my heart and it made me think of my own childhood, playing with yourself and having a good time. The kid that was chosen to play Max could not have been more perfect. As the story progressed I couldn't help but think of the book itself and how it just gave it so much more meaning. Why would a kid go off into a land of cute cuddly monsters? the film gave you that reason and it was quite sincere. The music was also so very effective and likable I couldn't stand it. When you are first introduced to the monsters, I couldn't help but feel a little afraid. It was said that movie's release date was extended because at the test screenings many people found the monsters to be too scary for children. I think that is actually true. Anyways, this movie could be viewed as dark if all you let your kid watch is Shrek and Cinderella, but I encourage parents to take their children because it really gives children the opportunity to actually feel something, not just sit there for 2 hours smiling and cooing at all the pretty graphics.

I almost felt like crying because there is a lot of sadness and complex emotion in this movie and even though you know that this is all in the mind of a little kid, you can't help but escape to that world with him and feel the things that he does.

The monsters themselves were very complex characters with very unique emotions and outlooks on things. This movie also had a lot of cute cuddly parts and some funny ones as well.

In the end it was all very beautiful and I left the movie theater in awe. This movie was definitely worth the week long wait.

now I can understand why some parents would not take their kids to see it, it is a bit more dark than your typical kid's movie and there is this part where they are talking about how the sun is going to die and I couldn't help but feel that that would initially a lot of questioning of children to their parents, but I guess that's a good thing.

I was so happy to actually see a little kid dancing along to the music and smiling and having a good time watching this movie.

ugh I want to see this movie again and again. It was utterly amazing in every sense of the word <3333333
